Saint Blaise Primary School

st blaise school milton logoIn October we had our Ofsted inspection. We are extremely proud of our school and the work that we do. Our report is very positive and is a great reflection on all that we do.

St Blaise continues to be a GOOD SCHOOL because of:
• ‘inspirational and dedicated leadership’ resulting in staff being ‘proud to work’ in the school
• ‘having an ‘accurate view of the school’s effectiveness’ and a ‘reflective approach to understanding how to develop the school further’
• ‘a strong and nurturing ethos, where diversity is celebrated’.
The good relationships between staff and pupils and parents were highlighted:
• ‘pupils love their small and caring school’
• ‘pupils are keen to discuss their learning, which they enjoy’
• ‘parents are also complimentary about the school’ … ‘they put the children’s needs first and really focus on giving them the best education possible’.
Continued strengths of the school and improvements since the last inspection include:
• early years provision – ‘children get off to a flying start in Reception and make strong progress’
• effective governance – ‘governors regularly visit the school to see for themselves the impact that leaders have on school improvement. They are very strategic in their approach to decision-making’
• middle leaders’ role in improving the quality of teaching, learning and assessment
• inclusiveness of the school ensuring special educational needs pupils and those with disabilities make strong progress
• a commitment to all pupils being given the opportunity to ‘be the very best they can be’
• the broad and balanced curriculum, which is ‘thoughtfully designed and a strength of St Blaise’.

This term we have been thinking about the First World War. Each class looked at a different aspect of the war; animals, mud, the trenches and women at war. The week concluded with a very poignant worship and a play performed by Maple class called, Archie Dobson’s War. We are very grateful to the Parish Council for supporting our event by supplying us with soldiers that were displayed around the school.

We have a number of Christmas events that you are welcome to attend: –
4th & 5th December – Oak and Poplar Nativity – please contact us for tickets.

Tuesday 18th December – Christmas Service 9.00am at school.

We would love to see you at these events.

st blaise school milton logoThe new school year is well underway. Our numbers are expanding rapidly and we have welcomed 89 children and their families this September which far exceeds our expectations.

We were pleased that so many members of the local community attended our event to look at the school and Redrow plans. Redrow will be working on Blaise Park for up to eight years and are very keen to support the school in the development of our science garden.

This term we are pleased to have Miss Priddle join the staff as Poplar’s classteacher whilst we appoint a full time permanent member of staff.

This term our class topics are:

If you have any resources or interest in these topics and think that you can help in anyway, you would be most welcome.

This term our Christian value is Creativity. We have been thinking about how we can use our talents and gifts. Our bible verse is: But now, O LORD, You are our Father; We are the clay, and You our potter; And we are all the work of your hand.

st blaise school milton logoIt hardly seems possible that we have reached the end of another school year. We have had a wonderful time. Pupils always comment on the wide range of opportunities that they have at St Blaise through clubs trips and visitors. We firmly believe that these experiences are what enthuses and inspires the children with their work and we hope their future life plans.

Last week Maple class went to Fairford Air Show and had an amazing day exploring, watching and learning. This week Poplar class took part in a drama workshop which ended with a mini performance of songs from The Wizard of Oz. We saw some real talent!

St Blaise sang and danced at the Tadpole Feast. We were very pleased to be asked again and had a terrific time. Thank you for your support.

As the term concludes we say goodbye to our marvellous Year 6. They were the first Reception children that I welcomed as the new head of St Blaise. I feel that we have all been on the journey together – I have learnt so much from them. We wish them much success as they journey on and begin a new chapter. The children have always represented the school with such enthusiasm and positivity. We are very proud of them.

We are trying to develop our outdoor learning spaces. We need help! Do you know anything about ponds, growing vegetables and wildlife? We would love to hear from you.

st blaise school milton logoSt Blaise is proud to announce that we had an ‘OUTSTANDING’ SIAMS inspection (this is the church inspection that takes place every 5 years). The inspector was particularly pleased to note: “An embedded Christian vision encapsulates a set of Christian values that have a significant impact on the daily life of the school”. The report praises collective worship, leadership and relationships with parents and the wider community. We are immensely proud of the report as we achieved satisfactory during our last inspection. We would like to thank members of the community for their support as this has been a real team effort. Please download the full report to read: http://www.st-blaise.oxon.sch.uk/

This term Poplar, Willow and Maple classes performed the musical Oliver. The play was a real success because the pupils and staff were so dedicated. The children performed three times; our evening performances were sell outs. People who came were delighted with the enthusiasm, quality of singing and the polish of the performance.
