Saint Blaise Primary School

st blaise school milton logoWe were delighted to welcome members of the school and community to an open evening before the start of term to celebrate our newly refurbished school. St Blaise is now a four class school and has the capacity to have 105 children (15 per year group). Existing classrooms have been redesigned and decorated and the community room and cloakroom are now a stylish Y5/6 classroom. Calderbrooks, the builders completed the project two weeks early and under budget. A huge thank you to our neighbours who didn’t complain, and supported the build. Please come and have a look – phone the office and we will give you a tour (831368)

In September, 15 new foundation stage pupils joined us at St Blaise. The children put jewels in our school treasure box to celebrate that we are all special and unique but belong together. We also welcomed Mrs McDaid as our new year 1/2 teacher. Barrie Burgess has joined the support staff and cleaner – we hope that they already feel part of the school team.

Willow class (Year 3/4) visited STEAM in Swindon this week. The children had the opportunity to find out about the history of the railways. They dressed up and role played a debate about the coming of the railways. There was an opportunity to explore the museum driving trains, looking in carriages and operating a signal box. The children were congratulated on their behaviour and knowledge.

st blaise school milton logoWe have had an amazing end to the term with a whole range of events this month. BOBs (Buddies Of Blaise school) had a very successful afternoon at the Tadpole Feast – thank you to the organisers for inviting us. We will be back next year with some dancing! Some of the children from Maple class went on a trip to Bankside in London. We had a great day visiting the historical sites in this area including the Rose Theatre, old Globe site and new Globe exhibition. The children had the privilege of being the first group to perfom a song from Bugsy Malone on the stage of the Rose Theatre! The day ended with a visit to the Tate Modern which certainly got the children talking!

The whole school joined together to create a festival of dance. We had examples of country, maypole and Scottish dancing. All of the children took part. Keeley and Todd made a great king and queen. Mrs Curtis came and crowned them and enjoyed watching the event. We had a very enjoyable tenor horn concert where the year 4,5,6 children showcased their talents. They performed Abba and Queen hits and had great fun!

Maple class had a standing ovation after they had performed the musical Bugsy Malone this week. The production included singing, dancing and an amazing end of show custard pie and foam gun fight. The children and the audience delighted at being splurged! The children were magnificent. They were word and song perfect and raised the roof!

We are delighted to report that our building work is going incredibly well. We already have a new classroom and meeting room. Next the builders are constructing the extension to our smallest classroom; during the summer holiday the rest of the internal works will be completed. We are hoping that the work will be completed by the beginning of August. We appreciate that the increased site traffic may have caused some inconvenience, we are trying to limit this but if you have any problems please call us.

This term Oak class are learning about food.

They are discovering where food comes from and locating countries. They are planning to visit Kew Gardens to pick fruit.

Poplar class are learning about the Romans. They have been finding out about invasion and are busy making shields for gladiator training.

Maple class have begun a topic on the Theatre. Later in the term they will be performing the musical Bugsy Malone and will be visiting the Globe Theatre.

At the beginning of term we said farewell to Mrs Curtis. Carol has been a member of the St Blaise team for 17 years. We celebrated her retirement with a special assembly and after school we held a tea party. Many families, students and former members of staff attended the event. We served tea to over one hundred people. We wish Carol well with her future plans and look forward to welcoming her back to help us with art and craft projects in the future.

At long last we have a start date for our building project of 29 May. We would like to remind local residents that the road leading to school (School Lane) will need to be clear at all times. This is a small project so we are not expecting a large amount of traffic. The building alterations should be ready by mid- August.
