Back again for 2017, the firework display has cemented itself firmly in the village calendar and will be even more spectacular this year. Once again there will be a prize for the BEST GUY competition. Last year there were more than 15 guys all of which went on the bonfire so let’s see if we increase that number this year.


Judging for the BEST GUY will take place at Poplars at 5.30pm on the night so please make sure your guys are there on time. The Bonfire will be lit at 5.45pm and the Firework Display will begin at 6.00pm. Hot soup and toffee apples will be on sale!


As you know This event is run by volunteers and funded purely by donations so please give generously in the collection buckets at the entrance to the event. Click on the image to download an A4 poster to print to help publicise the event in your work place.

AGM Report

This is a brief report on the MICE AGM which was held on 26 July in the new community space in St Blaise Church.


The Chair opened the meeting by restating the aims of MICE. We are voluntary group of Milton residents who meet from time to time to plan social events throughout the year to promote a sense of community within our Parish. The events for the year September 2016 to July 2017 were summarized.


The Treasurer reported that the MICE bank balance stood at £4721.42. The following financial commitments were agreed.
Donation of £2000 to St Blaise Church (Community Space) building fund
Sponsorship of £600 to Milton Matters magazine to assist with increased production costs
Purchase a new 6x3m tent to replace the old, worn out, version. (Actual cost £244.89)
Allocate £750 to purchase fireworks for Bonfire Night, Saturday 4th Nov 2017

The Milton Men’s Bake Off Competition

The Great British Bake off is in turmoil, a BBC TV 'national treasure' sold off to the highest bidder by the production company.


Not so with the Milton Men’s Bake Off competition at this year’s fete (Saturday 1st July), things couldn’t be better with Richard Watson, winner for the last 2 years, leaving the village, the rest of us amateur bakers stand half a chance of winning the prize!  


This year the competition is for Men & Boys and the challenge is completely open, bake anything you like; fairy cakes, fruit cake, lemon drizzle cake, biscuits, muffins, even bread… If the judges like it, you never know your luck!!


Once again there will be a fantastic PRIZE and a TROPHY for the winner.


Bring your cakes to the fete at 2.30pm (don't forget a label with your name), judging will be at approx 3.00pm and unless you want your cake back they will hopefully be sold in the Tea Tent . . . assuming they are in fact edible!.


Please note, anyone suspected of cheating, which might include buying a cake or getting help from a female will result in being locked in the stocks while his fellow competitors throw wet sponges at them…you have been warned!

Milton Tadpole Feast "Save the Date" - Saturday 1 July

Calendars at the ready folks, its time to add this years Milton Tadpole Feast to your calendar for Saturday 1st July 2017 from 2.30-5.00pm in the Squire Barrett Playing Field.


The Fete group have leapt into action to make the 2017 parish Fete one to remember.  Would you like to join the fun helping to organise this and other village events, or perhaps you can help run a stall?  If so, we'd love to hear from you.

Community Space Project

In preparation to work starting in the not too distant future we will begin the task of decluttering the church on Monday 20 February. This will be preceded by a short blessing ceremony by Bishop Colin of Dorchester at 8.30am. All are welcome to attend - go to work a little late!


We know that the village supports this plan, which will provide Milton village with a community hall available for church use and for social hire. A useable space with moveable pews plus a kitchen and toilet and a new stone floor, will rejuvenate the church building for its survival into the future.

Recent fundraising has achieved : ‘Murder Afoot’ Drama Evening £726, Infineum donation £500,

The St Blaise Church Community Space Project

Funding Is Progressing - But We Still Urgently Need Donations

Join the St Blaise Community Space 100 Club

The purpose of the St Blaise Community Space Project is to change the interior layout of the church to create an open space with kitchen and toilet facilities for use by the wider community. Proposed activities in the redesigned church include a craft fair, concerts, exercise classes, quizzes, a choir and a youth group.


The Community Space Project Team are working hard to raise funds to enable this conversion to take place. We are setting up a 100 Club and by joining you can help create a new community space for Milton village, as well as having a chance to win a cash prize every month! Here’s how it works…


• Numbers cost £2 each. Complete and sign the membership form and return this with a cheque for £24 (£2 per month for a year) per number – you can buy as many numbers as you want.
The membership form is available to download from www.stblaise.org.uk/100club or you can pick up a flyer from the church. Alternatively, please contact Rebecca Thomas on 07717 693724 or at 100club@stblaise.org.uk to be sent a copy by email or post.
• We will allocate your membership number(s) and enter you into a monthly draw. The draw will take place at St Blaise Church on the last Sunday of each month.
• The total prize money will be 50% of the membership fee taken that month. This amount is divided between three winners. If we have 100 members, the monthly income will be £200, with £100 being used for prizes: 1st prize will be £50, 2nd prize will be £30 and 3rd prize will be £20.
• The remaining 50% will go into the St Blaise Community Space Project fund.
• If you win a prize, a cheque will be posted to the address provided on the membership form. The name of the winner will be published on the village Facebook page, the St Blaise website (www.stblaise.org.uk/100club/winners), the St Blaise noticeboard and in Milton Matters.
